HT is redistribution of existing hair follicles to achieve a good cosmetic appearance for the areas of hair loss, with a density comparable to surrounding area.
HT can also be done for restoring beard hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, for filling up scars in the scalp.
HT is usually done under local anaesthesia.
Patient usually can go home on the same day of surgery.
Follicular unit transplant (FUT) – strip technique and Follicular unit Extraction (FUE) are the common HT procedures done now.
Follicular unit transplant (FUT) – Donar harvesting is done by surgical excision of a strip of skin from the back (occipital and parietal scalp regions) , separating the hair follicle grafts from the strip and implanted. Donar site is sutured which leaves a scar.
Follicular unit Extraction (FUE) – Scarless technique ; Donar hair follicles are harvested with motorised mini punches (0.8mm) and implanted .
